Column of St. Theodore

columnofsttheodore.jpg

One of the two columns that welcomes you to the Square. Theodore was the original patron saint of the square, until he was replaced by St. Mark. Like a lot of the nice things in Venice, these columns were 'removed' from their original locations. The columns were actually brought from the city of Tyre upon the command of Doge Michieli, in 1125.
